Both the richness of the era it represents and its complex but comfortable design make the Soundboards a deck that’s sure to resonate with all who find it. Fans of the original deck will feel the nostalgia immediately and the deck’s ties to vintage audio gear will get everybody else feeling the nostalgia too. Every detail from the original Soundboard’s memorable box has been faithfully recreated in this new red edition featuring added structural improvements to enhance the box’s functionality. This time the cards are coming from USPCC on their Crushed Premium stock, a welcome change for all card handlers. The deck’s traditionally reversible and intricate back design, illustrated by Stuart Palm, has held up over the years and has been left largely unchanged in this red edition with the exception of a few small details. The design is detailed and easy to stare, finding a balance between simplicity and complexity. The back design incorporates major pieces of audio equipment from different eras into one harmonious setup. The Soundboards deck was created to celebrate vintage audio gear like 80s cassette players and gramophones. The Riffle Shuffle Bureau has a special announcement to make We are now recruiting new agents to join our very special secret service There was an idea. It is an honor to introduce the newest edition of Soundboards to the world after nearly 4 years of waiting. Now, for the first time since their original 2015 release, new Soundboards are being printed through collaboration between Patrick Varnavas and Riffle Shuffle. That first edition was printed in blue and shortly after a red version was teased but never ended up becoming a reality. However, this set ticks many boxes for the luxury deck collector, with special emphasis on the metallic foiling on the cards and the box which will "dazzle in your hands".Soundboards Playing Cards were first created by Patrick Varnavas in 2014 and then released in 2015. The gold and silver foil makes it difficult to see the card value, and it's hard to tell the difference between the number and court cards. The intricate and detailed design is over-the-top and not suitable for playing card games. Be careful when handling the box, the foil is not consistent in quality and flakes easily. The inside of the box is foiled as well as the outside. The front and back of every card is fully foiled with copper and gold foil. This pack of cards is perhaps the most gilded pack I have ever seen. The jokers feature a pianist in a smokey jazz lounge with monkeys dressed in a porter boy's attire. The courts are also decorated with gold and silver foil and feature powerful and intimidating animals alongside each character. The court cards are inspired by the “ characters that frequented the Grand Hotel - elegant ladies, sleek gentlemen and dangerous looking mobsters” explains Yu in the Kickstarter campaign. Yu collaborated with Bravo Design, a specialist packaging studio founded in 2017, whose awards include Best Design Wine Packaging, and Winemag and Spirits Label Design. The Art Deco style, popular in the 1920s, is characterised by its bold geometric shapes and patterns. The back design features additional copper and gold foil "made to dazzle", and the number cards are designed with a distinct Art Deco flavour, and of course enriched with gold and foil. The Chinatown Edition (reviewed here) is fully foil-printed. There are 55 cards in the deck: 52 playing cards, 2 jokers, 1 gaff card. The cards are manufactured by Cartamundi using their “soft-touch” paper, a thinner proprietary stock. Grip the rest of the deck with your right thumb and 2nd and move your right hand diagonally forward and to the right. Lift off a small group of cards from the top of the deck with your left thumb and 2nd. Square the deck between your your left pinky and right 3rd. Each edition is limited to 1,400 decks with a foiled and numbered seal. This is the perfect thing to do after a table riffle shuffle. There are three variations in the set, the Golden Glamour Edition, the Silver Allure Edition and the Chinatown Edition. The concept is inspired by the " shiny world of the Great Gatsby" evoking the atmosphere of a 1920s party with the lavish Grand Hotel as a setting. Yu explains that the cards have “ a luxurious feel, with gold and silver foil on the backs and faces of the cards”. The deck was funded by a Kickstarter campaign, where 884 backers pledged CAD$104,453. Throughout this production there is an enormous focus on the gold foil.

The Grand playing cards produced by Kevin Yu under the Riffle Shuffle Playing Card Company brand name are a luxury collectible deck, with foil on both sides of the cards, embossed paper with gold and silver foils on the box.
